Our Story

  • St. Stephen Catholic School was founded on August 27, 1981. The school began with the help of two religious sisters— Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. With the assistance of the Archdiocese of Denver, Fr. Joseph Leberer, the pastor at the time, the St. Stephen community welcomed the sisters with open arms.

  • Thanks to the sisters, Fr. Leberer, and a group of dedicated parents, children in the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado had access to a Christ-centered K-8 education. The tradition continues nearly 50 years later. In fact, some of these founding parents have grandchildren in our school today.

  • In 2021, the school went through a massive $7 million renovation project, which included major upgrades to classrooms and infrastructure. The exterior of the building also received a loving refresh and included the installation of our iconic giant red metal cross. Other improvements included creating a more welcoming school entrance, which now houses our school library, and the completion of the parish hall which is used as a cafeteria, music instruction classroom, and event space.

We like to say the beauty of the exterior of the school reflects the beauty of the great things happening inside!
